Afternoon Caulking

Spent quality time with razor knife and acetone working on the shell seam of the Northern-Lite 10-2. This seam is where the top and bottom of the camper are joined together and runs around the entire unit. The original factory filler is still “gooey” and in place, but definitely in need of replacement. The difference is shown below (click the post heading to see the rest of the post). Used 3m 4200 sealant as replacement. This comes in 12oz toothpaste tubes which were challenging to manage, but once a squeeze, roll, spread system got going it was fairly easy.

Update: Finished seam, windows, taillights and assorted other areas that needed sealant replacement.

The CAT Scales

Made a trip to the CAT Scales today to get the empty weight of the truck. The result is below.  This is with full fuel, a 200# driver and 50# tailgate (removed for camper)

The next trip will be with camper on. In the meantime,

The truck printed GVWR is 12,300
The camper printed dry weight is 2,980

12,300 – 8,150 (8,400 – 250) = 4,150
4,150 – 2,980 = 1170# for driver, passenger, water, food, tools. This should work out about right. The next weigh will tell the tale.

UPDATE – 12/17/2017

Made it back to the scales with the Goose.  Includes driver, empty water, full propane and batteries.

Based on these weights, there will be 680# available for passenger, water, food and extras before GVWR is reached.
